Intensive Arabic Language Program

Academics
The Intensive Arabic Language Program, offered only during the summer, is an introduction to Modern Standard Arabic (the written language) and will be taught at the elementary level only. Class sessions will focus on learning the Arabic alphabet as well as grammar, reading, writing, pronunciation, and translation. The course will cover basic morphology and syntax of Modern Standard Arabic, including verb patterns.

Classes meet four days a week, six hours each day, and students can expect several hours of homework every day. One additional day each week will be devoted to field trips to visit locations of interest in Arab communities in the northern parts of Israel. The course is taught in English and is designed for students with absolutely no prior knowledge of the Arabic language.

The Arabic Language Program awards five academic credits.

Extra-Curricular Activities
The Arabic Program will offer a wide range of social activities, including trips, lectures, and celebrations.  Participation in the extra-curricular activities is optional.

Housing
Students are welcome and encouraged to live in the dormitory facilities on campus.

Eligibility
The Intensive Arabic Course is open to all students above the age of 18 with a high school diploma, as well as adult learners.

Course Syllabus - August 2009

"My Arabic improved dramatically over the four weeks that I was in the program. We were able to practice as a cohesive group working together to help each other improve. Along with all of the hard work, we were able to see the beautiful country and all of the historical landmarks it has to offer!"
