In this course, students will explore theory, research, and practical training in the context of mentorship in education. Through formal and informal experiences in the curriculum, students will develop skills for communication, management, and support within the education practice.

This course consists of two main parts: one part academic coursework, and the other an internship at an educational institute in Haifa.  Students will integrate lessons from the internship and academic field research, and learn best practices to apply to their work in the education field.  

Course objectives:

-To expose students to models of mentoring, to theories of professional learning, and to applied lessons at the workplace

-To examine theoretical approaches on communication in the education practice, strategies for managing professional dilemmas, and how to provide support to novice professionals

-To connect models and approaches with contextual guidance in the field

-To reveal aspects that make up the pedagogical practice, as relevant to the students’ training

Internship objectives:

-To give students education experience at local organizations such as schools, NGOs for youth or adults, organizations supporting minority or special needs populations, and institutes for children with learning disabilities

-To acquire a better understanding of the professional demands and requirements of a particular career field.

-To develop specific knowledge about type of work that the sponsoring organization does, and to understand the daily operations, general tasks and various roles within the organization.

-To learn about the social and cultural issues of Israel first-hand and reflect on how they impact the work of the organization.

Admissions Requirements

This course is open to students who are interested in pursuing a master’s degree at Faculty of Education Sciences , in addition to students who have completed at least 2 years of relevant undergraduate studies.

Candidates must demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum grade point average  3.0
  • Excellent command of English language (Chinese students  must provide one of the following exam results:CET-4 minimum score 550, CET-6 minimun score 425, or an equivalent, and will be evaluated by the University of Haifa program committee)
  • Two letters of recommendation from relevant academic faculty members
  • Personal statement essay


Internship Outline

Prior to internship - Student identifies academic goals and interviews with experienced Internship Coordinator who locates appropriate internship site for student.

During the Summer Internship - 20-hour on-site requirement for the internship per week, with a Weekly Report and evaluation sessions with Internship Coordinator.

Post -Summer Internship - Student completes a Self-Evaluation using his/her personal goals, the student’s Internship Supervisor provides written performance evaluation, and student submits final research paper.

Course Requirements

  • Attendance to course meetings are mandatory
  • Attendance on-site to internship minimum 20 hours per week, and completion of relevant assignments
  • Final analysis project must be completed on a selected topic discussed during the sessions

Social and Cultural Activities

Students participate in activities with experienced university Social Activity coordinators, as well as take trips to Israel’s tourist attractions, such as Jerusalem, Golan Heights, Bahai Gardens, etc. Students will immerse in the local culture, through Shabbat dinner meals, Israeli films, and other social activities. Students may also take advantage of visits around the city of Haifa and Israel. Please see our social activites page.

Students are welcome to live in the dormitory facilities on campus

Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to apply here. Under a unique Israeli Government Sponsorship, excellent students from China will receive a scholarship covering a large portion of the program and dormitories fees. Nonrefundable registration fee of $80 for application.
