Spring 2025: March 18 – June 26, 2025
The Hebrew language semester program, also known as the Semester Ulpan, is designed for people who want to immerse themselves in a language acquisition experience that is personally enriching as well as academically demanding. The program focuses on strengthening all four major skills: writing, reading, speaking, and comprehension.
Instruction is offered at all levels from beginners with no knowledge of the language to advanced classes. Students who only want to enroll in a Hebrew course of the International School are considered part-time students. During the academic semesters (September – January, and February – June) Hebrew classes meet four days per week, Mondays through Thursdays, for two hours each morning either from 8 am-10 am or 10 am-12 pm (classes rotate daily between these times). This course awards 6 academic credits.
**All course-level offerings are based on the number of applicants and their placement exams
The Ulpan classes are relatively small and each student is given a great deal of personal attention and an opportunity to interact with both fellow students and the teacher. In addition to traditional learning through textbooks, classes will also involve computer and video sessions, work in the language laboratory, and student presentations.
Hebrew Language Aleph: Beginners
Hebrew Language Bet: Lower Intermediate
Hebrew Language Gimel: Upper Intermediate
Hebrew Language Dalet: Lower Advanced
*Please Note: Course levels change each session depending on the participating students.
** Please note** The language exam is a requirement for acceptance, but it is not part of the initial application. A link to an online placement exam will be sent to you via email after you submit your application.
The Hebrew placement test is to be completed online. This exam will be used to place students in the most appropriate class for their level of Hebrew language knowledge. It is mandatory to complete as much as possible without the use of any aid and submit it. A link to the placement exam will be sent after your application is submitted.
The course is open to all applicants ages 18 and older.
