Diplomacy Studies

About:

When thinking about relationships between countries, specifically in the Middle East, two words come to mind: “it’s complicated.” This is true not only for diplomats, policy analysts, and decision-makers, but also for researchers and scholars. This is exactly why our international Master of Arts concentrating on Diplomacy Studies is especially designed to provide our students with knowledge and practical tools to address current social, political, and economic challenges in today’s interconnected global environment, especially in the region of the Middle East.

 Highlights:

Our program provides professional or aspiring administrators, officials, policy makers, and negotiators with collaborative diplomatic techniques, insights, and analytical tools to address complex political, cultural, and economic challenges. They include:

  • Introducing effective, cutting edge physical and digital diplomatic tools and techniques.
  • Field trips designed to expose students to actual behind the scenes diplomatic functioning at the Israeli Foreign Ministry, UN Headquarters, and other institutions.
  • Practical simulations designed to address dynamic diplomatic issues.
One year, One degree

Our one-year international master’s program in Diplomacy Studies is taught in English over three consecutive semesters from October through September. Graduates will be awarded a Master of Arts (MA) in International Relations, specialization in the field of Diplomatic Studies, from the School of Political Sciences at the University of Haifa

Diplomacy Studies is a non-thesis track. Students who wish to pursue the thesis track will have two options:

1. Switch to a thesis track after the second semester, and not complete the specialization in the field of Diplomatic Studies.

2. Complete the program and submit candidacy to a thesis writing track in the following year.

In both cases, students must have a minimum average of 90 after their first semester. Requests for the thesis track will be considered individually and are dependent on students’ achievements, their ability to secure a supervisor, and other factors. The thesis will be submitted within one year of completion of their coursework, which may require an extended stay at the university.
